In 1985, a revived Royal Air Force Squadronaires began to coalesce, and in January 1987, this orchestra was inaugurated at RAF Uxbridge under the leadership of Sergeant Jimmy Miller, with several of the original members in attendance.

Originally formed by the RAF with a view to emulating the popularity with the troops of the American bands of the day, and to help boost morale, the Squadronaires went on to surpass even the most popular of the American bands.
